PROPER HELMETS FOR VIETNAM
It seems like Vietnam does not have many options when it comes to buying a proper helmet! Shops don't actually stock what they say they stock, and options are very limited! We want to change that!
For a motorbike country, Vietnam has a lot to learn about helmet safety standards. First thing to learn is: "they exist!"
DOT RATED HELMETS
The US Department of Transport FMVSS NO. 218 (DOT) certification, is simply the minimum legal standard for any state requiring motorcycle riders to wear a helmet (US and Canada). The DOT homologation is considered the most “basic” standard, but the testing process is actually thorough.
ECE RATED HELMETS
The ECE or United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is actually the most common internationally recognized helmet certification as more than 50 countries have adopted the ECE standards for helmets. The ECE standard, like DOT, favors impact absorbing helmets.
SNELL RATED HELMETS
The Snell Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit, independent organisation established in 1957 and is named after William “Pete” Snel. Snell Foundation tests for impact management. Snell certified helmets are allowed by the AMA, WERA and CSS for professional motorcycle racing
MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System, which is a leading slip-plane technology inside the helmet designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts.
