Now it’s not uncommon for XR owners to want to improve their bikes with modifications. There is a right way and a wrong way of doing this, so the workshop team at Tigit with their extensive experience with “good” and “bad” modifications for the Honda XR, has shared their Knowledge of a well modded motorcycle.
Handlebars are important to get right because, they are the direct link between you and the machine, they are ultimately there to improve comfort and control of the bike and they need to be strong for the off road environment. Handguards (UFO & RaceFx)
Handguards protect the backs of your hands from all those nasty branches and stones you may encounter on the trail, they also help protect your levers in the event of a fall, they make a decent windbreak too. UFO make solid and inexpensive ones which we sell.
Engine Guard
An engine guard is vital if you are considering doing any off-roading, a branch or a rock can break your crank case and its game over :( so we stock specially made engine guards for the XR to protect your machine
Grips
Grips are great for improving rider feel, if you are big person you may want fat grips, or you just don't like the look of your stock ones, we recommend RaceFx we have these in a variety of colours too!
Why should you modify it the right way?
Modifications can deeply affect the motorcycle's performance and behaviors, so it's important to fully understand what these mods are actually doing to the bike and the knock on effect they may have.
For example changing the exhaust may seem like a cool idea, but if done poorly this will have a direct effect on the engines breathing and performance, and may actually cause a decrease in performance
Alternatively if you were to use an aftermarket exhaust, specifically designed for the bike by a reputable manufacturer Akrapovic for example, they have generally spent millions on R&D and hire the best engineers, so you can be assured this will work properly and have a positive effect on your motorcycle.” but honestly we have never seen a good aftermarket exhaust for the XR here in Vietnam, so just leave it.
